Titanium Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) is an alpha-beta titanium alloy strengthened primarily through the addition of 6% aluminium and 4% vanadium. Aluminium stabilises the alpha phase, enhancing tensile strength and reducing density, while vanadium stabilises the beta phase, improving ductility and enabling heat treatment through solution treating and aging. Trace elements such as iron, oxygen and carbon are tightly controlled to maintain consistent mechanical properties and fracture toughness. This carefully balanced composition gives Ti-6Al-4V its excellent strength-to-weight ratio and reliable performance across demanding fastener applications.
The alloy offers outstanding corrosion resistance due to a stable, self-healing titanium oxide layer, making it highly suitable for marine, chemical and aerospace environments. Its high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent fatigue resistance and ability to retain mechanical integrity at elevated temperatures make it ideal for aerospace fasteners, high-performance bolts and critical structural components. Combined with good weldability and biocompatibility, Ti-6Al-4V fasteners deliver long-term reliability, reduced weight and superior performance compared to conventional steel or stainless steel alternatives in high-stress engineering applications.
