Titanium Grade 12 is alloyed with 0.3% molybdenum and 0.8% nickel, small additions that significantly enhance strength while maintaining excellent weldability and formability compared to commercially pure titanium. These alloying elements refine the microstructure, improving resistance to crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in chloride-rich and reducing environments. The near-alpha structure ensures stability at elevated temperatures without compromising ductility, making the alloy a practical alternative to more expensive titanium grades and stainless steels in demanding applications.
Engineering benefits include superior corrosion resistance in seawater, brine and mildly reducing acidic media, along with excellent strength-to-weight ratio suitable for high-performance fasteners. Its high temperature capability up to 480°C, combined with resistance to hydrogen embrittlement and galvanic corrosion, makes Grade 12 fasteners ideal for marine, chemical processing and aerospace assemblies requiring long-term reliability, reduced maintenance and dependable mechanical performance under cyclic loading conditions.
