Product Overview

What are Hastelloy C2000 Screws?

Hastelloy C2000 screws are nickel-chromium-molybdenum-copper alloy fasteners manufactured from UNS N06200 bar stock conforming to ASTM B574. The alloy’s exceptional corrosion resistance stems from its balanced composition of chromium (22-24%), molybdenum (15-17%), and copper (1.5-2.5%), delivering outstanding resistance to both oxidising and reducing acid environments in a single alloy.

With a PREN exceeding 55, Hastelloy C2000 screws outperform standard C-276 and C-22 grades in mixed acid service and are specified for chemical process equipment, pharmaceutical reactors, and aggressive industrial environments where no single-purpose alloy is adequate. These screws meet NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 requirements for sour-service applications and are widely used in flange connections, pressure vessel closures, and heat exchanger assemblies worldwide.

Material Chemistry

Hastelloy C2000 Chemical Composition

Hastelloy C2000 Screws derive their exceptional acid corrosion resistance from a precisely controlled nickel-molybdenum-chromium composition per ASTM. High molybdenum and tungsten content suppresses pitting and reducing-acid attack; ultra-low carbon (0.01% max) eliminates sensitization risk in welded assemblies. Full elemental composition is certified in the EN 10204 MTC supplied with every Hastelloy C2000 screws order from RealBolt.

Why Hastelloy C2000 Alloy Composition Matters for Screws

Mo (15–17%) — Superior Reducing Acid Resistance
The elevated molybdenum content in Hastelloy C2000 provides outstanding resistance to reducing acids including hydrochloric, sulfuric, and phosphoric acid — environments that rapidly attack lower-Mo alloys. This makes C2000 screws the preferred choice for chemical reactor closures and acid process equipment.
Cu (1.5–2.5%) — Oxidising Acid Resistance
The addition of copper uniquely extends C2000's resistance into oxidising acid environments such as dilute nitric acid and mixed acid streams. This dual capability — handling both oxidising and reducing media — is the defining advantage of C2000 over C-276 and C-22 in mixed-service applications.
Ultra-Low Carbon (0.01% max) — Sensitisation Prevention
The extremely low carbon ceiling prevents carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during welding or elevated-temperature service. Hastelloy C2000 screws retain full intergranular corrosion resistance in the as-welded condition without requiring post-weld heat treatment.

?? Anti-galling: Use nickel-based anti-seize (Molykote P-37 or equivalent). Lubricated values assume K=0.15. Never use copper-based anti-seize on nickel alloys - galvanic incompatibility accelerates corrosion at the thread interface.

Industry Applications

Hastelloy C2000 Screws Applications — Industries & End Uses

Hastelloy C2000 Screws from RealBolt are specified across chemical processing, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, and FGD where excellent corrosion resistance and 800 MPa tensile strength are required for reliable fastener performance. Click each industry below for detailed application examples. Select an industry below to see specific Hastelloy C2000 screws application details and RealBolt stock availability.
Hastelloy C2000 socket head cap screws and hex screws are the preferred fastener for chemical reactor vessel closures, agitator shaft seals, and heat exchanger channel covers handling mixed oxidising and reducing acid streams. The alloy’s unique dual resistance to both HCl and HNO3 environments eliminates the need for separate alloy selections across a single process train.
C2000 screws are specified for pharmaceutical reactor closures, filter press assemblies, and high-purity process equipment where contamination risk from corrosion products is unacceptable. The alloy’s resistance to organic acids, chlorinated solvents, and aggressive cleaning agents (CIP/SIP cycles) makes it the fastener of choice for GMP-compliant process equipment.
Machine screws and hex screws in Hastelloy C2000 are used in FGD absorber tower internals, spray header connections, and mist eliminator frames where concentrated sulfuric acid mist, chloride ions, and elevated temperatures combine to destroy standard stainless steel and even C-276 fasteners in accelerated service.
C2000 screws are specified for bleach plant equipment including chlorine dioxide reactor covers, washer drum connections, and bleach tower access panels. The alloy resists hypochlorite, chlorine dioxide, and acidic bleach filtrate – environments that cause rapid stress corrosion cracking in austenitic stainless steels.

Hastelloy C2000 screws are available in socket head cap screws (DIN 912 / ISO 4762), hex head screws (DIN 933 / ISO 4017), pan head machine screws, countersunk screws (DIN 965), and set screws (DIN 913/914/916). Drive styles include hex socket (Allen), Torx, Phillips, and slotted. Inch sizes are manufactured per ASME B18.3 (socket head) and ASME B18.6.3 (machine screws). Custom drive forms and head configurations are available on request with 15 working day lead time.
Hastelloy C2000 offers a distinct advantage over both C-276 and C-22 in mixed acid service. C-276 excels in reducing environments but has limited oxidising acid resistance. C-22 improves oxidising resistance but at the cost of some reducing acid performance. C2000’s copper addition (1.5-2.5%) bridges this gap, providing superior resistance to both oxidising and reducing media simultaneously. For screws in mixed-service chemical reactors or processes alternating between acid types, C2000 is the technically correct single-alloy solution.
Yes – Hastelloy C2000 maintains useful mechanical properties up to approximately 1040°C in oxidising atmospheres and up to 760°C in reducing atmospheres. The alloy resists oxidation and scaling at elevated temperatures, making C2000 screws suitable for furnace fixtures, high-temperature reactor closures, and thermal processing equipment. For continuous service above 500°C, consult our engineering team regarding creep allowances and appropriate torque de-rating factors.
Standard sizes (M6-M24) held ex-stock carry no formal MOQ – single-piece supply is available for emergency maintenance and plant shutdown requirements. Custom sizes, special drive forms, and non-standard lengths have a minimum order of 10 kg. Quantity price breaks apply at 50 pieces, 200 pieces, and 500 pieces. Full kitting services (screws, washers, and nuts as matched-heat sets) are available for pressure vessel and heat exchanger applications with a single EN 10204 3.1 MTC covering the complete set.
