Product Overview

What are Chromium Copper C18200 Screws?

Chromium Copper C18200 screws are high-conductivity copper alloy fasteners manufactured from UNS C18200 bar or wire, conforming to ASTM B170 and ASTM B187. This alloy, containing 0.6-1.2% chromium, is precipitation-hardened to deliver a unique combination of high electrical and thermal conductivity with superior mechanical strength and wear resistance.

Chromium Copper C18200 screws are widely specified for resistance welding electrodes, electrical connectors, and high-temperature hardware where both conductivity and durability are critical. Their excellent resistance to softening at elevated temperatures makes them ideal for demanding electrical and thermal cycling environments.

Material Chemistry

Chromium Copper C18200 Chemical Composition

Chromium Copper C18200 Screws are produced from either tin-stabilized Naval Brass C46400 or aluminium-nickel-iron Aluminium Bronze C63000, with elemental limits per ASTM and MIL-B-24059. Tin (0.5–1%) in Naval Brass prevents dezincification in seawater; aluminium and nickel additions in Al Bronze C63000 provide non-sparking ATEX Zone 1 compliance.

Why Chromium Copper C18200 Alloy Composition Matters for Screws

Chromium (0.6–1.2%) — Strength & Softening Resistance
Chromium addition enables precipitation hardening, giving C18200 screws high strength and excellent resistance to softening at elevated temperatures, making them ideal for resistance welding and high-heat electrical applications.
High Copper Content — Conductivity
With over 98% copper, C18200 screws maintain high electrical (=80% IACS) and thermal conductivity, ensuring minimal energy loss in electrical connections and heat transfer assemblies.
Trace Elements — Purity & Weldability
Low levels of iron, silicon, and nickel ensure excellent weldability and corrosion resistance, critical for electrical and thermal cycling environments.
