Chromium Copper C18200 derives its high performance from a controlled addition of 0.6–1.2% chromium to a copper base. This chromium content forms fine, coherent precipitates during aging heat treatment, significantly increasing strength and hardness while retaining excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. Minor amounts of silicon or other trace elements may be present to refine grain structure and improve hot workability. Unlike many copper alloys, C18200 achieves its strength primarily through precipitation hardening rather than solid solution or work hardening alone, giving it a unique balance of mechanical and physical properties rarely found together in copper-based materials.
This precipitation-hardened structure provides fasteners with high strength, good fatigue resistance, and outstanding thermal conductivity, making them ideal for applications requiring both mechanical integrity and heat dissipation. C18200 offers good resistance to atmospheric and industrial corrosion, along with excellent resistance to softening at elevated temperatures compared to standard copper alloys. Its combination of conductivity, strength, and thermal stability makes it well suited for fasteners used in electrical, resistance welding, and high-temperature industrial equipment, where both mechanical performance and thermal or electrical efficiency are essential.
