Product Overview

What are Hastelloy G35 Washers?

Hastelloy G35 washers are nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy fastener components manufactured from UNS N06035 bar or plate stock conforming to ASTM B574 and ASTM B575. The alloy’s high chromium content (33.2-36.2%) combined with molybdenum (7.6-9.0%) delivers outstanding resistance to oxidising acids, mixed acid environments, and wet process phosphoric acid – performance that no standard austenitic stainless steel can replicate.

The elevated chromium level gives Hastelloy G35 a PREN exceeding 55, providing exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-bearing process streams. Hastelloy G35 washers are specified for chemical process flanges, phosphoric acid plant equipment, and FGD scrubber assemblies where standard nickel alloys and stainless steels suffer accelerated corrosion under washer bearing surfaces.

Material Chemistry

Hastelloy G35 Chemical Composition

Hastelloy G35 Washers derive their exceptional acid corrosion resistance from a precisely controlled nickel-molybdenum-chromium composition per ASTM. High molybdenum and tungsten content suppresses pitting and reducing-acid attack; ultra-low carbon (0.01% max) eliminates sensitization risk in welded assemblies. Full elemental composition is certified in the EN 10204 MTC supplied with every Hastelloy G35 washers order from RealBolt.

Why Hastelloy G35 Alloy Composition Matters for Washers

Cr (33.2–36.2%) — Oxidising Acid Resistance
The exceptionally high chromium content of Hastelloy G35 provides outstanding resistance to oxidising acids including nitric acid, mixed acids, and wet process phosphoric acid — environments where standard nickel alloys such as Hastelloy C276 suffer accelerated attack. This makes G35 washers the preferred choice for chemical process flanges handling oxidising media.
Mo (7.6–9.0%) — Pitting and Crevice Corrosion Resistance
Molybdenum in combination with the high chromium content delivers a PREN exceeding 55, providing superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion under washer bearing surfaces in chloride-containing process streams. This is critical in applications where stagnant liquid can accumulate beneath the washer face.
Low Carbon (0.05% max) — Sensitisation Prevention
The controlled low carbon content prevents carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during welding or elevated temperature service, ensuring Hastelloy G35 washers retain full corrosion resistance in heat-affected zones without requiring post-weld heat treatment.

Industry Applications

Hastelloy G35 Washers Applications — Industries & End Uses

Hastelloy G35 Washers from RealBolt are specified across chemical processing, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, and FGD where excellent corrosion resistance and 800 MPa tensile strength are required for reliable fastener performance. Click each industry below for detailed application examples. Select an industry below to see specific Hastelloy G35 washers application details and RealBolt stock availability.
Hastelloy G35 washers are the preferred specification for flange bolt assemblies in phosphoric acid, nitric acid, and mixed acid process plants. The high chromium content (33.2-36.2%) provides corrosion resistance in oxidising environments where Hastelloy C276 and standard nickel alloys are inadequate. Used under stud bolt heads and nuts on reactor flanges, heat exchanger covers, and pipe connections handling wet process phosphoric acid (WPA).
Flat and large OD washers for flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) scrubber internal connections, absorber tower flange assemblies, and ductwork connections where HCl-saturated gas, sulfuric acid mist, and chloride-bearing condensate combine to attack standard stainless steel and even Hastelloy C276 washers at elevated temperatures.
Hastelloy G35 washers are specified for flange connections in chlorine dioxide bleaching stages, hypochlorite bleach plant piping, and washer press assemblies where oxidising bleach chemicals and elevated temperatures create highly corrosive conditions that rapidly degrade 316L and duplex stainless steel fastener components.
Washer sets for reactor closure flanges, agitator shaft seals, and heat exchanger nozzle connections in pharmaceutical API manufacturing and fine chemical synthesis where mixed acid media, halide-containing solvents, and strict contamination control requirements demand high-purity, corrosion-resistant nickel alloy fastener components.

Answers for Buyers

Hastelloy G35 Washers — Frequently Asked Questions

Browse expert answers to common questions about Hastelloy G35 Washers from RealBolt — covering acid corrosion resistance, NACE MR0175 compliance, ASTM standards, available sizes, and MTC documentation. Contact our technical team directly for project-specific guidance on Hastelloy G35 washers selection and pricing.
Hastelloy G35 flat washers are manufactured to DIN 125 (metric normal series), DIN 9021 (metric large OD series), ISO 7089, and ISO 7093. Inch series washers are available per ASME B18.22.1 (plain washers) and ASME B18.21.1 (lock washers). Custom dimensions including non-standard OD, ID, and thickness are available with a 10-15 working day lead time. All washers are supplied with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates as standard.
Hastelloy G35 (UNS N06035) contains significantly higher chromium (33.2-36.2%) compared to Hastelloy C276 (UNS N10276, Cr 14.5-16.5%). This makes G35 superior in oxidising acid environments such as nitric acid, mixed acids, and wet process phosphoric acid, where C276 can suffer accelerated corrosion. Hastelloy C276 outperforms G35 in strongly reducing acid environments. For mixed oxidising and reducing service, G35 is generally the preferred choice. Consult our engineering team for specific media compatibility assessment.
Yes – Hastelloy G35 washers in the annealed condition with hardness not exceeding 35 HRC comply with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 requirements for sour service environments containing H2S. Each washer batch is supplied with a hardness survey report confirming compliance. For critical sour service flange assemblies, we recommend specifying the complete fastener set (stud bolts, nuts, and washers) from a single matched heat to ensure consistent material certification and traceability.
No formal MOQ applies to standard metric sizes (M12-M36) held ex-stock – we supply from single pieces for emergency maintenance and shutdown requirements. Custom sizes and non-standard dimensions carry a minimum order of 5 kg. Large OD DIN 9021 series washers in sizes M16-M48 are also available ex-stock. Quantity price breaks apply at 100 pieces, 500 pieces, and 1,000 pieces for standard sizes.
