What is Incoloy 925?

Incoloy 925 (UNS N09925) is a precipitation-hardenable Incoloy 825 variant with Ti 1.9–2.4% and Al 0.1–0.5% enabling age-hardening to 1034 MPa tensile. It combines the aqueous corrosion resistance of Incoloy 825 (Ni-Fe-Cr-Mo-Cu) with high strength comparable to Inconel 718, specifically engineered for sour oil and gas downhole service. Incoloy 925 fasteners, tubing hangers and wellhead components are specified for HPHT (high-pressure, high-temperature) sour wells where the combination of H2S, CO2, chlorides, elemental sulfur and high mechanical load exceeds the capability of standard alloys. NACE MR0175 compliant. Governed by ASTM B805.

Incoloy 925 Fasteners Chemical Composition

Incoloy 925 Fasteners derive their exceptional performance from a carefully balanced composition of nickel, iron, chromium, molybdenum, titanium and copper. Nickel and iron form a stable austenitic matrix, while chromium provides oxidation and corrosion resistance. Molybdenum enhances resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, particularly in chloride-rich environments, while titanium and aluminum enable age-hardening through the precipitation of gamma-prime strengthening phases, significantly boosting mechanical strength without compromising ductility.

This unique combination delivers outstanding corrosion resistance, high strength and excellent toughness across a wide temperature range, making Incoloy 925 Fasteners ideal for demanding applications. Their resistance to stress corrosion cracking, sulfide stress cracking and hydrogen embrittlement makes them particularly suitable for oil and gas, marine, and chemical processing environments. The alloy’s ability to maintain mechanical integrity under high mechanical loads and corrosive conditions ensures long-term reliability, reduced maintenance costs and enhanced safety in critical bolting applications.

Applications

Incoloy 925 Fasteners Applications

Incoloy 925 Fasteners from RealBolt Engineering Industries are specified wherever corrosion resistance, elevated-temperature strength, or chemical media compatibility is critical to fastener performance. Primary industries and end-uses for Incoloy 925 fasteners include age-hardened 825; oil & gas sour service; high-strength fasteners.
Incoloy 925 fasteners are widely used for wellhead equipment, downhole tools, hangers, packers and valve assemblies exposed to hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, chlorides and high mechanical loads.
The alloy provides dependable bolting performance for subsea clamps, flanges, connectors and control systems where seawater exposure and chloride stress-corrosion resistance are critical.
Incoloy 925 bolts, studs and nuts are selected for pumps, valves, reactors and piping equipment handling chloride-containing media, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid and sour process streams.
Age-hardened UNS N09925 fasteners are used where designers need higher strength than Alloy 825 with better corrosion resistance than many stainless steels in aggressive oilfield and industrial environments.

Frequently Asked Questions About Incoloy 925 Fasteners

Browse the questions below to get quick, expert answers about Incoloy 925 Fasteners — covering alloy specifications (UNS N09925), applicable standards (ASTM B805), temperature ratings, corrosion performance, and how to source certified Incoloy 925 fasteners from RealBolt Engineering Industries.
925 combines: (1) Ni 42–46% for SCC immunity in H2S/Cl- environments, (2) Mo+Cu for reducing-acid and mixed-acid resistance, (3) age-hardening via Ti+Al providing 1034 MPa tensile — enough for high-pressure wellhead bolting, (4) NACE MR0175 compliance with hardness control. No other standard alloy matches this combination.
ASTM B805 covers Incoloy 925 rod, bar and wire in the solution-annealed condition. ASME SB-805 is the pressure-vessel code equivalent. Material is supplied solution-annealed + aged per the customer-specified condition, with EN 10204 3.1 MTC including hardness survey.
Yes. N09925 is listed in NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 Part 3 for sour service with hardness and heat treatment controls. Maximum hardness is specified per the applicable H2S partial pressure and temperature per NACE tables. We provide full NACE documentation package with PMI, hardness survey and MTC 3.1.
Solution anneal: 982°C minimum. Age: 732°C/8h, furnace cool at 55°C/h to 621°C, hold 8h, air cool. This two-step age provides the optimum balance of strength and corrosion resistance for sour service. Full heat treatment records with thermocouple chart provided on MTC.
