Product Overview

What are Inconel X-750 Nuts?

Inconel X-750 nuts are precipitation-hardened nickel-chromium alloy fasteners manufactured from UNS N07750 bar stock conforming to ASTM B637. The alloy achieves its exceptional strength through gamma-prime precipitation hardening via aluminium (0.4-1.0%) and titanium (2.25-2.75%), delivering tensile strengths exceeding 1100 MPa in the age-hardened condition – significantly higher than solid-solution nickel alloys.

Inconel X-750 nuts are specified under AMS 5698 and AMS 5699 for gas turbine engine hardware, nuclear reactor internals, and high-temperature pressure vessel closures where sustained clamping force at temperatures up to 700°C is non-negotiable. The alloy’s resistance to stress relaxation makes it the preferred choice wherever conventional stainless steel or Inconel 625 nuts lose preload under thermal cycling.

Material Chemistry

Inconel X-750 Chemical Composition

Inconel X-750 Nuts are manufactured from a nickel-chromium superalloy containing nickel (72% min), chromium (14–17%), and iron (6–10%). Each element is precisely controlled per ASTM — nickel provides chloride SCC immunity, chromium drives high-temperature oxidation resistance, and iron balances structural stability and alloy cost.

Why Inconel X-750 Alloy Composition Matters for Nuts

Ti (2.25–2.75%) + Al (0.40–1.00%) — Gamma-Prime Precipitation Hardening
Titanium and aluminium combine with nickel to form the Ni3(Al,Ti) gamma-prime phase during age hardening. This precipitation mechanism is what gives Inconel X-750 nuts their high-temperature strength and resistance to stress relaxation — critical for maintaining bolt preload in gas turbine and nuclear applications.
Cr (14–17%) — Oxidation and Hot Corrosion Resistance
Chromium forms a stable Cr2O3 oxide layer that protects nut bearing surfaces and thread flanks from oxidation at temperatures up to 700°C. This is essential in gas turbine casing joints and exhaust manifold connections where nuts are exposed to hot combustion gases.
Nb + Ta (0.70–1.20%) — Grain Boundary Stabilisation
Niobium and tantalum stabilise grain boundaries and suppress carbide precipitation during service at elevated temperatures. This prevents intergranular attack in the thread root — the highest stress concentration point in any nut — during long-term thermal exposure.

Industry Applications

Inconel X-750 Nuts Applications — Industries & End Uses

Inconel X-750 Nuts from RealBolt are specified across oil and gas, aerospace, chemical processing, and power generation where excellent corrosion resistance and 760 MPa tensile strength are required for reliable fastener performance. Click each industry below for detailed application examples.
Inconel X-750 heavy hex nuts are the standard specification for gas turbine casing joint studs, compressor disc through-bolt assemblies, and combustion chamber flange connections. AMS 5698/5699 compliant. Approved under GE Aviation, Rolls-Royce, and Pratt & Whitney material specifications for hot-section hardware operating continuously above 500°C.
Hex nuts and heavy hex nuts for reactor pressure vessel (RPV) closure stud assemblies, control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) flanges, and primary coolant loop piping connections. Inconel X-750 is listed in ASME Section III for Class 1 nuclear components due to its resistance to stress relaxation and irradiation embrittlement at reactor operating temperatures.
Flange nut sets for ASME Section VIII pressure vessel closures, heat exchanger channel covers (TEMA Class R), and autoclave door studs in chemical processing environments where sustained preload at 500-700°C is required. Inconel X-750 nuts maintain clamping force through thermal cycles that cause stainless steel nuts to relax and leak.
Heavy hex nuts for high-pressure wellhead flange connections, Christmas tree assemblies, and subsurface safety valve (SSSV) housings where combined high temperature, high pressure, and H2S sour service demand both NACE MR0175 compliance and superior stress relaxation resistance beyond what Inconel 625 provides.

Inconel X-750 hex nuts are available to DIN 934 (standard hex), DIN 6915 (heavy hex, high-strength), ISO 4032 (style 1), ISO 4033 (style 2, tall), and ASME B18.2.2 (inch hex and heavy hex). Heavy hex nuts for ASME B16.5 flange stud bolt sets are supplied per ASME B18.2.2 with thread form to ASME B1.1 (UNC). Custom nut profiles including coupling nuts, slotted nuts, and castle nuts are available on request with 15 working day lead time.
Inconel X-750 nuts are available in two heat treatment conditions. Annealed (AMS 5698) provides moderate strength (approximately 758 MPa tensile) and is used where forming or further machining is required after supply. Age-hardened (AMS 5699) – solution annealed at 1093°C then aged at 843°C for 24 hours – delivers the full 1100 MPa tensile strength required for gas turbine and nuclear applications. Always specify the condition at time of order. Nuts supplied in the annealed condition cannot be re-aged after installation without dimensional distortion.
Yes – Inconel X-750 is listed in ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III (Nuclear Components) for Class 1 pressure boundary fasteners. The alloy’s gamma-prime precipitation hardening mechanism provides exceptional resistance to stress relaxation under sustained load at reactor operating temperatures (280-320°C for PWR primary circuits). It also demonstrates superior resistance to irradiation embrittlement compared to austenitic stainless steel fasteners. Supply with EN 10204 3.2 TPI-witnessed MTC and full heat traceability is standard for nuclear applications.
Inconel X-750 nuts retain useful mechanical properties up to approximately 700°C in continuous service. Above this temperature, the gamma-prime precipitate begins to coarsen (over-ageing), causing a gradual reduction in yield strength and increased stress relaxation. For applications above 700°C, Inconel 718 or Waspaloy fasteners should be considered. Below 700°C, Inconel X-750 outperforms Inconel 625 and all standard stainless steel grades in stress relaxation resistance – making it the preferred choice for gas turbine casing joints and high-temperature pressure vessel closures.
