Product Overview

What are Titanium Grade 4 Bolts?

Titanium Grade 4 bolts are high-strength, commercially pure titanium fasteners manufactured from UNS R50700 bar stock in accordance with ASTM B348 and ASTM F67. Grade 4 is the strongest of the commercially pure titanium grades, offering a minimum tensile strength of 550 MPa and excellent corrosion resistance in oxidizing and chloride-rich environments.

These bolts are widely specified for critical applications in chemical processing, marine, medical, and aerospace industries where high strength-to-weight ratio, biocompatibility, and immunity to crevice and pitting corrosion are essential. Titanium Grade 4 bolts are non-magnetic, exhibit low thermal expansion, and are suitable for both cryogenic and elevated temperature service up to 400°C.

Material Chemistry

Titanium Grade 4 Chemical Composition

Titanium Grade 4 Bolts are manufactured from commercially pure or alloyed titanium with elemental limits strictly controlled per ASTM and AMS specifications. Oxygen and nitrogen contents govern strength and ductility in CP grades; aluminium and vanadium additions in Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5) deliver 896 MPa tensile strength at 4.43 g/cm³ density.

Chemical Composition per ASTM B348

ElementComposition (%)
Titanium (Ti)Balance
Oxygen (O)0.40% max
Iron (Fe)0.50% max
Carbon (C)0.08% max
Nitrogen (N)0.05% max
Hydrogen (H)0.015% max
Other Elements (each)0.10% max
Other Elements (total)0.40% max
? All heats verified by NABL-accredited spectrometry. Oxygen and nitrogen content tested per batch.

Why Titanium Grade 4 Alloy Composition Matters for Bolts

High Oxygen Content — Strength
Grade 4 titanium’s higher oxygen content (up to 0.40%) increases tensile and yield strength, making these bolts suitable for high-pressure and structural applications where Grade 2 is insufficient.
Low Iron & Carbon — Corrosion Resistance
Strict limits on iron and carbon ensure maximum corrosion resistance in oxidizing, chloride, and marine environments, preventing localized attack and embrittlement.
Biocompatibility
The absence of alloying elements and low interstitials make Titanium Grade 4 bolts ideal for medical, dental, and food-contact applications where biocompatibility is critical.
