What is Inconel X-750?

Inconel X-750 (UNS N07750) is a precipitation-hardenable Ni-Cr alloy strengthened by Ti (2.25–2.75%) and Al (0.40–1.0%) additions forming γ’ (Ni3(Ti,Al)) precipitates. In the fully aged condition it delivers 1100 MPa tensile with excellent stress relaxation resistance — critical for spring-loaded and preloaded fastener applications at elevated temperature. Inconel X-750 fasteners and springs are used in gas turbine compressor spacers, nuclear reactor holddown springs, aircraft engine retaining rings and high-temperature bolted joints requiring resistance to stress relaxation above 650°C. Governed by AMS 5542 and ASTM B637.

Inconel X-750 Fasteners Chemical Composition

Inconel X-750 is a nickel-chromium alloy strengthened with additions of titanium, aluminum, and niobium, which promote the formation of gamma-prime precipitates during aging. Chromium content, typically around 15-16%, imparts excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance, while nickel provides a stable austenitic matrix. The precipitation-hardening elements enable significant strengthening through controlled heat treatment, allowing the alloy to achieve high tensile and yield strength without sacrificing ductility.

These characteristics make Inconel X-750 fasteners exceptionally suited for high-temperature and corrosive service environments, including aerospace, gas turbine, and nuclear applications. The alloy retains strength and resists stress relaxation up to 700°C, while offering outstanding resistance to oxidation, chloride-induced corrosion, and creep. Its combination of high strength, excellent fatigue resistance, and dimensional stability under thermal cycling ensures reliable fastener performance in demanding structural and mechanical assemblies where conventional stainless steels would fail.

Applications

Inconel X-750 Fastener Applications

Inconel X-750 Fasteners from RealBolt Engineering Industries are specified wherever corrosion resistance, elevated-temperature strength, or chemical media compatibility is critical to fastener performance. Primary industries and end-uses for Inconel X-750 fasteners include nuclear reactor spring clips, gas turbine blades, high-strength bolts.
Inconel X-750 bolts, screws and studs are used around turbine cases, exhaust structures, afterburner hardware and high temperature airframe assemblies where stainless steel fasteners can lose clamp load. The alloy maintains strength after aging and resists oxidation in hot gas environments.
Age-hardened X-750 fasteners are selected for assemblies that need stable preload, relaxation resistance and fatigue strength during thermal cycling. Typical uses include spring retainers, clamps, lock hardware, pressure seals and fixtures exposed to repeated heating and cooling.
UNS N07750 fasteners are used in selected nuclear, steam and power plant components where high strength, corrosion resistance and dimensional stability are required. Proper heat treatment and specification control are important for demanding reactor and high purity water service.
Inconel X-750 fasteners provide reliable bolting for furnace hardware, retorts, reactor internals, valves, pumps and high temperature process equipment. They are chosen when a combination of nickel alloy corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance and elevated-temperature mechanical strength is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Inconel X-750 Fasteners

Browse the questions below to get quick, expert answers about Inconel X-750 Fasteners — covering alloy specifications (UNS N07750), applicable standards (AMS 5542), temperature ratings, corrosion performance, and how to source certified Inconel X-750 fasteners from RealBolt Engineering Industries.
X-750’s γ’ precipitation strengthening provides superior resistance to stress relaxation at 500–750°C. The ordered Ni3(Ti,Al) precipitates inhibit dislocation movement under sustained load, maintaining spring force over time — a key requirement that solution-strengthened alloys cannot meet.
Standard age: 843°C/24h AC (Condition A) for highest yield. For gas turbine: solution anneal at 1149°C + 843°C/24h + 704°C/20h (Condition C) for optimum creep rupture. Supplied in specified aged condition with full heat treatment records.
Yes. X-750 is used for reactor holddown springs, fuel assembly components and PWR internals. Special low-cobalt grades available to minimise radioactivation. ASTM B637 and ASME SB-637 govern nuclear pressure boundary applications.
Yes. Retains good ductility to -196°C. Used for LNG pump springs and cryogenic valve components. Impact properties do not degrade significantly below 0°C.
