Product Overview

What are Inconel 625 Threaded Rods?

Inconel 625 threaded rods are fully threaded fastener bars manufactured from UNS N06625 nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy bar stock conforming to ASTM B446. The alloy achieves a minimum tensile strength of 758 MPa in the annealed condition through solid-solution strengthening provided by molybdenum (8-10%) and niobium (3.15-4.15%), eliminating the need for precipitation hardening.

With a PREN exceeding 51, Inconel 625 threaded rods resist chloride pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in seawater and aggressive chemical environments where stainless steel alternatives fail. These rods are widely specified under NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 for subsea pipeline supports, offshore structural tie rods, chemical reactor closures, and high-temperature flange assemblies across the oil and gas, marine, and chemical processing industries.

Material Chemistry

Inconel 625 Chemical Composition

Inconel 625 Threaded Rods are manufactured from a nickel-chromium superalloy containing nickel (72% min), chromium (14–17%), and iron (6–10%). Each element is precisely controlled per ASTM — nickel provides chloride SCC immunity, chromium drives high-temperature oxidation resistance, and iron balances structural stability and alloy cost.

Why Inconel 625 Alloy Composition Matters for Threaded Rods

Mo (8–10%) — Thread Root Corrosion Resistance
Molybdenum raises the PREN above 51, protecting the thread root profile — the most vulnerable geometry on a threaded rod — from crevice corrosion in chloride-bearing media, seawater, and acidic process fluids. This is critical where rods are partially immersed or exposed to condensation cycles.
Nb (3.15–4.15%) — Structural Stability at Elevated Temperature
Niobium stabilises the austenitic matrix and suppresses sensitisation during thermal cycling. Inconel 625 threaded rods retain their corrosion resistance and mechanical properties after repeated heating to 980°C, making them suitable for high-temperature flange tie rods and furnace structural connections.
Solid-Solution Strengthening — No Heat Treatment Risk
Alloy 625 achieves its 758 MPa tensile strength entirely through solid-solution strengthening. Cut-to-length threaded rods do not require post-machining heat treatment, eliminating the risk of distortion or dimensional change after threading — a significant advantage over precipitation-hardened alloys.

?? Anti-galling note: Always apply nickel-based anti-seize (Molykote P-37 or equivalent) to threaded rod threads before nut assembly. Lubricated values assume K=0.15. Never use copper-based anti-seize on nickel alloy threaded rods - galvanic incompatibility accelerates thread corrosion.

Industry Applications

Inconel 625 Threaded Rods Applications — Industries & End Uses

Inconel 625 Threaded Rods from RealBolt are specified across oil and gas, aerospace, chemical processing, and power generation where excellent corrosion resistance and 760 MPa tensile strength are required for reliable fastener performance. Click each industry below for detailed application examples.
Inconel 625 threaded rods are the standard specification for subsea pipeline clamp assemblies, riser support frames, and umbilical termination structures. NACE MR0175 compliant for H2S sour service environments. Specified under Shell DEP, ExxonMobil EMSP, and NORSOK MDS D47 for long-term seawater immersion without coating.

Inconel 625 Threaded Rods — Frequently Asked Questions

Browse expert answers to common questions about Inconel 625 Threaded Rods from RealBolt — covering ASTM standards, max service temperature, corrosion resistance, available sizes, lead times, and MTC certification. Contact our technical team directly for project-specific guidance on Inconel 625 threaded rods selection and pricing.
Inconel 625 threaded rods are manufactured to DIN 975 (metric full thread, standard lengths of 1000 mm and 2000 mm), DIN 976-1 (metric stud form), and ASME B18.31.3 for inch continuous threaded rods. Custom cut lengths are available in any increment from 50 mm to 3000 mm. Thread forms include ISO metric coarse and fine, UNC, UNF, BSW, and BSPP on request. All rods are supplied with thread tolerance class 6g per ISO 965-1.
Yes – Inconel 625 threaded rods can be cut using carbide-tipped hacksaw blades, abrasive cut-off wheels, or band saws with bi-metal blades rated for nickel alloys. Work hardening is moderate compared to austenitic stainless steel, but slow feed rates and adequate coolant are essential to avoid thread damage at the cut end. After cutting, chamfer the thread lead-in with a file or die to prevent nut cross-threading. No post-cut heat treatment is required to restore corrosion resistance.
No – carbon steel nuts must never be used with Inconel 625 threaded rods. The galvanic potential difference will cause accelerated corrosion of the carbon steel nut in wet or immersed service. Always pair Inconel 625 threaded rods with matching Inconel 625 hex nuts (ASTM B446 / ASTM F467 UNS N06625) or, where cost permits, with Alloy 825 nuts for less aggressive environments. Washer material should also be Inconel 625 or Alloy 825 to maintain galvanic compatibility.
Inconel 625 threaded rods retain useful mechanical properties up to 980°C in oxidising atmospheres. Between 650°C and 760°C, prolonged exposure can cause precipitation of secondary phases that reduce ductility – for continuous service in this range, Inconel 718 or Alloy 601 may be more appropriate. Below 650°C and above 800°C, alloy 625 performs reliably. For cryogenic applications, Inconel 625 maintains excellent toughness down to -196°C, making it suitable for LNG and liquid nitrogen service.
