Product Overview

What are Inconel X-750 Bolts?

Inconel X-750 bolts are precipitation-hardened nickel-chromium alloy fasteners machined from UNS N07750 bar stock conforming to ASTM B637. The alloy achieves its exceptional strength through age-hardening via aluminium (0.4-1.0%) and titanium (2.25-2.75%), which form the gamma-prime (?’) Ni3(Al,Ti) precipitate phase, delivering tensile strengths exceeding 1100 MPa in the fully aged condition.

Unlike solid-solution alloys, Inconel X-750 bolts retain high clamping force at elevated temperatures up to 700°C, making them the preferred fastener for gas turbine casings, nuclear reactor internals, and high-temperature pressure vessel closures. The alloy complies with AMS 5667/5668/5669 and ASTM B637 and is widely specified under ASME Section III for nuclear-grade bolting applications worldwide.

Material Chemistry

Inconel X-750 Chemical Composition

Inconel X-750 Bolts are manufactured from a nickel-chromium superalloy containing nickel (72% min), chromium (14–17%), and iron (6–10%). Each element is precisely controlled per ASTM — nickel provides chloride SCC immunity, chromium drives high-temperature oxidation resistance, and iron balances structural stability and alloy cost.

Why Inconel X-750 Alloy Composition Matters for Bolts

Ti + Al — Gamma-Prime Precipitation Hardening
Titanium (2.25–2.75%) and aluminium (0.40–1.00%) combine to form the Ni3(Al,Ti) gamma-prime precipitate during age hardening. This coherent precipitate phase is responsible for the alloy's tensile strength exceeding 1100 MPa and its ability to maintain clamping load at temperatures up to 700°C — critical for gas turbine and nuclear bolting.
Cr (14–17%) — Oxidation and Hot Corrosion Resistance
Chromium forms a stable Cr2O3 oxide layer that protects bolt surfaces from oxidation and hot corrosion in combustion gas environments. This allows Inconel X-750 bolts to operate continuously in gas turbine casings and exhaust manifolds without surface degradation or loss of thread integrity.
Nb + Ta (0.70–1.20%) — Grain Boundary Stabilisation
Niobium and tantalum additions stabilise grain boundaries and suppress carbide precipitation during service at elevated temperatures. This prevents stress relaxation and bolt load loss in long-term high-temperature applications such as nuclear reactor internals and steam turbine casings.

?? Anti-galling: Use nickel-based anti-seize (Molykote P-37 or Bostik Never-Seez Pure Nickel). Lubricated values assume K=0.15. Never use copper-based anti-seize on nickel alloys - galvanic corrosion risk at elevated temperatures.

Industry Applications

Inconel X-750 Bolts Applications — Industries & End Uses

Inconel X-750 Bolts from RealBolt are specified across oil and gas, aerospace, chemical processing, and power generation where excellent corrosion resistance and 760 MPa tensile strength are required for reliable fastener performance. Click each industry below for detailed application examples.
Inconel X-750 bolts are the standard fastener for gas turbine casing flanges, compressor disc assemblies, combustion chamber liners, and turbine blade retaining hardware. The alloy’s gamma-prime strengthening mechanism maintains clamping force at continuous service temperatures up to 700°C, where conventional stainless steel bolts relax and lose preload. AMS 5668 specification is required by most OEM turbine manufacturers.
Inconel X-750 is listed in ASME Section III for nuclear-grade bolting of reactor pressure vessel internals, control rod drive mechanisms, and core support structures. The alloy’s resistance to stress relaxation under sustained neutron flux and high-temperature water environments makes it the preferred choice over austenitic stainless steel for long-cycle nuclear bolting applications.
High-pressure steam turbine casing bolts, valve bonnet studs, and main steam stop valve closure bolting are routinely specified in Inconel X-750 for power stations operating above 540°C. The alloy’s creep resistance and low stress relaxation rate ensure joint integrity across extended maintenance intervals without re-torquing.
Inconel X-750 bolts are used in aircraft engine exhaust nozzle flanges, afterburner hardware, thrust reverser attachment points, and nacelle structural connections where simultaneous high tensile strength and oxidation resistance to 700°C are required. Fully compliant with AMS 5667/5668/5669 for aerospace procurement.

Inconel X-750 hex bolts are manufactured to DIN 931 (metric partial thread), DIN 933 (metric full thread), ISO 4014/4017, and ASME B18.2.1 for inch hex and heavy hex configurations. Stud bolts are supplied per ASME B16.5 and MSS SP-75 for high-pressure flange applications. Nuclear-grade bolting is available per ASME Section III requirements. Custom thread forms including BSW, UNF, and fine-pitch metric are available on request with a 15 working day lead time.
Inconel X-750 bolts are supplied in the fully precipitation-hardened condition per AMS 5668 (solution annealed at 1093°C followed by age hardening at 704°C for 20 hours, air cooled). This delivers the minimum tensile strength of 1100 MPa required for high-temperature bolting. For nuclear applications, the equalized and precipitation-hardened condition per AMS 5669 is available, which provides improved stress rupture properties. Full heat treatment records are supplied with every order as part of the EN 10204 3.1 MTC.
Yes – Inconel X-750 is listed in ASME Section III (Division 1) for nuclear pressure boundary bolting and reactor internal fasteners. The alloy’s resistance to stress relaxation under sustained neutron irradiation and high-temperature pressurised water environments makes it the preferred specification for PWR and BWR reactor internals, control rod drive mechanisms, and core barrel bolting. Material certification to EN 10204 3.2 with TPI witness is available for nuclear procurement packages.
Inconel X-750 bolts are rated for continuous bolting service up to 700°C. Above this temperature, the gamma-prime precipitate phase begins to coarsen and dissolve, causing progressive loss of tensile strength and increased stress relaxation. For applications between 700°C and 980°C, Inconel 625 or Inconel 718 bolts should be evaluated depending on the specific load and corrosion requirements. Short-term excursions to 815°C are tolerable but will reduce long-term clamping force retention.
