Product Overview

What are Hastelloy G35 Nuts?

Hastelloy G35 nuts are nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy fasteners manufactured from UNS N06035 bar stock conforming to ASTM B574. The alloy’s high chromium content (33.2-36.2%) combined with molybdenum (7.6-9.0%) delivers exceptional resistance to oxidising acids, particularly nitric acid and mixed acid environments, at concentrations and temperatures that rapidly attack standard nickel alloys.

With a PREN exceeding 48 and outstanding resistance to intergranular corrosion in the as-welded condition, Hastelloy G35 nuts are specified for chemical process flanges, phosphoric acid plant connections, and nuclear fuel reprocessing assemblies where long-term joint integrity under aggressive oxidising conditions is non-negotiable.

Material Chemistry

Hastelloy G35 Chemical Composition

Hastelloy G35 Nuts derive their exceptional acid corrosion resistance from a precisely controlled nickel-molybdenum-chromium composition per ASTM. High molybdenum and tungsten content suppresses pitting and reducing-acid attack; ultra-low carbon (0.01% max) eliminates sensitization risk in welded assemblies. Full elemental composition is certified in the EN 10204 MTC supplied with every Hastelloy G35 nuts order from RealBolt.

Why Hastelloy G35 Alloy Composition Matters for Nuts

Cr (33.2–36.2%) — Oxidising Acid Resistance
The exceptionally high chromium content is the defining characteristic of G35. It forms a tenacious passive oxide film that resists attack in concentrated nitric acid, mixed nitric-hydrofluoric acid, and chromic acid environments where lower-chromium nickel alloys fail rapidly.
Mo (7.6–9.0%) — Pitting & Reducing Acid Resistance
Molybdenum complements the chromium by providing resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing process streams and reducing acid conditions. This dual protection makes G35 nuts suitable for mixed-acid process flanges where both oxidising and reducing species are present.
Low Carbon (0.05% max) — Sensitisation Immunity
The controlled low carbon content prevents chromium carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during welding or elevated-temperature service. Hastelloy G35 nuts retain full intergranular corrosion resistance in the as-welded condition without requiring post-weld heat treatment — a critical advantage for flanged assemblies that cannot be furnace-treated after fabrication.

Industry Applications

Hastelloy G35 Nuts Applications — Industries & End Uses

Hastelloy G35 Nuts from RealBolt are specified across chemical processing, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, and FGD where excellent corrosion resistance and 800 MPa tensile strength are required for reliable fastener performance. Click each industry below for detailed application examples. Select an industry below to see specific Hastelloy G35 nuts application details and RealBolt stock availability.
Hastelloy G35 heavy hex nuts are the preferred specification for flange connections in concentrated nitric acid service, mixed nitric-hydrofluoric acid pickling lines, and chromic acid process vessels. The alloy’s PREN of 48+ and exceptional resistance to oxidising media make it the material of choice where stainless steel and standard nickel alloys suffer rapid attack. Compliant with ASME B31.3 process piping requirements.
G35 nuts are specified for flanged connections in PUREX-process reprocessing plants handling concentrated nitric acid at elevated temperatures. The alloy’s resistance to intergranular corrosion in the as-welded condition and its stability under gamma irradiation make it suitable for nuclear-grade fastener applications where long service intervals between maintenance shutdowns are required.
Hex nuts and heavy hex nuts for reactor vessel closures, heat exchanger channel covers, and pipeline flanges in wet-process phosphoric acid (WPA) plants. Hastelloy G35 outperforms alloy 625 and 276 in the highly oxidising, fluoride-containing phosphoric acid streams produced during rock phosphate digestion with sulfuric acid.
Nut sets for absorber tower internal flanges, spray header connections, and mist eliminator supports in limestone-forced-oxidation FGD scrubbers. The combination of high chloride concentrations, low pH, and oxidising conditions in FGD liquors demands the superior pitting resistance that Hastelloy G35 provides over duplex stainless and alloy C-276 in this specific environment.

Hastelloy G35 hex nuts are manufactured to DIN 934 (standard hex, metric), DIN 6915 (heavy hex, metric), ISO 4032 (style 1), ISO 4033 (style 2 tall), and ASME B18.2.2 (inch hex and heavy hex). Heavy hex nuts for ASME B16.5 flange stud bolt sets are supplied per ASME B18.2.2 heavy series. Custom configurations including coupling nuts, slotted nuts, and lock nuts are available on request with 15 working day lead time.
Yes – Hastelloy G35 is specifically engineered for concentrated and fuming nitric acid environments. The alloy’s chromium content of 33.2-36.2% provides a corrosion rate below 0.1 mm/year in boiling 65% nitric acid (Huey test per ASTM A262 Practice C), outperforming alloy 625, C-276, and all grades of stainless steel in this environment. G35 nuts are routinely specified for nitric acid plant flange connections operating at temperatures up to 120°C.
The key difference lies in oxidising versus reducing acid resistance. Hastelloy C-276 (UNS N10276) excels in reducing acids such as hydrochloric and dilute sulfuric acid due to its very high molybdenum content (15-17%). Hastelloy G35 (UNS N06035) is superior in oxidising environments – concentrated nitric acid, mixed acids, and chromic acid – because of its much higher chromium content (33.2-36.2%). For mixed-acid processes containing both oxidising and reducing species, G35 is generally the preferred choice. Consult our engineering team for site-specific media analysis.
Standard sizes (M12-M36 and ½”-1½”) held ex-stock carry no formal MOQ – single-piece supply is available for emergency maintenance requirements. Custom sizes and non-standard thread forms have a minimum of 10 kg per order. ASME B16.5 heavy hex nut sets are supplied by the complete flange set with no minimum quantity. Volume price breaks apply at 100 pieces, 500 pieces, and 1,000 pieces.
