Product Overview

What are Hastelloy G35 Studs?

Hastelloy G35 studs are nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy fasteners manufactured from UNS N06035 bar stock conforming to ASTM B574. The alloy’s exceptional resistance to oxidizing acids is achieved through an elevated chromium content of 33.2-36.2%, combined with molybdenum (7.6-9.0%) and tungsten additions that collectively suppress both uniform and localized corrosion in highly aggressive chemical environments.

With a PREN exceeding 55, Hastelloy G35 studs outperform standard nickel alloys in nitric acid, mixed acid, and phosphoric acid service. These studs are specified for chemical reactor closures, heat exchanger nozzle connections, and flue gas scrubber assemblies where conventional stainless steel and even Hastelloy C276 fall short under strongly oxidizing conditions.

Material Chemistry

Hastelloy G35 Chemical Composition

Hastelloy G35 Studs derive their exceptional acid corrosion resistance from a precisely controlled nickel-molybdenum-chromium composition per ASTM. High molybdenum and tungsten content suppresses pitting and reducing-acid attack; ultra-low carbon (0.01% max) eliminates sensitization risk in welded assemblies. Full elemental composition is certified in the EN 10204 MTC supplied with every Hastelloy G35 studs order from RealBolt.

Why Hastelloy G35 Alloy Composition Matters for Studs

Cr (33.2–36.2%) — Oxidizing Acid Resistance
The exceptionally high chromium content in Hastelloy G35 is the defining feature of this alloy. It provides outstanding resistance to nitric acid across a wide concentration and temperature range, far exceeding the performance of Hastelloy C276 or standard austenitic stainless steels in oxidizing environments.
Mo (7.6–9.0%) — Pitting and Crevice Corrosion Control
Molybdenum works in concert with chromium to suppress pitting and crevice corrosion in mixed acid and halide-containing process streams. For stud applications, this is critical at thread roots and under nut bearing faces where crevice geometry concentrates aggressive media.
Low Carbon (0.05% max) — Sensitization Resistance
The controlled low carbon content prevents chromium carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during welding or elevated-temperature service. Hastelloy G35 studs retain full corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone without requiring post-weld heat treatment, simplifying fabrication of flanged assemblies.

Industry Applications

Hastelloy G35 Studs Applications — Industries & End Uses

Hastelloy G35 Studs from RealBolt are specified across chemical processing, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, and FGD where excellent corrosion resistance and 800 MPa tensile strength are required for reliable fastener performance. Click each industry below for detailed application examples. Select an industry below to see specific Hastelloy G35 studs application details and RealBolt stock availability.
Hastelloy G35 stud bolt sets are the preferred specification for reactor closure flanges, column nozzle connections, and heat exchanger channel covers in nitric acid, mixed nitric/sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid service. The alloy’s high chromium content provides corrosion rates below 0.1 mm/year in boiling concentrated nitric acid where Hastelloy C276 fails rapidly.
Stud bolts for FGD absorber tower internals, spray header connections, and duct expansion joint flanges where saturated HCl-bearing flue gas at 50-80°C creates simultaneous oxidizing and chloride attack. Hastelloy G35 resists both attack mechanisms, eliminating the rapid corrosion failures seen with duplex stainless steel fasteners in this environment.
Flange stud sets for pharmaceutical-grade reactor vessels, distillation column nozzles, and crystallizer closures handling aggressive organic acids, oxidizing cleaning agents, and CIP/SIP sterilization cycles. The low iron content (1.0% max) and high chromium level meet the contamination control requirements of GMP-regulated production environments.
Stud bolts for chlorine dioxide bleaching tower flanges, washer drum connections, and bleach liquor heat exchanger nozzles. Hastelloy G35 resists the combined oxidizing and chloride environment of modern ECF and TCF bleach sequences where even super-duplex stainless steel fasteners suffer accelerated pitting and stress corrosion cracking.

Hastelloy G35 studs are manufactured to DIN 938 (metric, metal-end engagement 1d), DIN 939 (metric, metal-end engagement 1.25d), and ASME B18.31.2 for continuous thread studs in inch dimensions. Flange stud bolt sets for pipe flanges are produced per ASME B16.5 (Class 150 to Class 2500) and ASME B16.47 for large-diameter flanges. Custom thread forms including BSW, BSF, and BSPP are available on request with a 15 working day lead time.
Hastelloy G35 contains 33.2-36.2% chromium compared to approximately 15.5% in Hastelloy C276. In strongly oxidizing environments such as concentrated nitric acid, high chromium content is the dominant corrosion-resistance mechanism. Hastelloy C276’s high molybdenum content actually accelerates corrosion in oxidizing acids by forming soluble molybdenum oxides. Hastelloy G35 studs are therefore the correct specification for nitric acid, mixed acid, and oxidizing chemical service where C276 would fail prematurely.
Yes – Hastelloy G35 in the annealed condition meets the hardness requirement of 35 HRC maximum specified in NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 for nickel alloys in H2S sour service. All studs are supplied with hardness survey results on the MTC. For Class 900 and above flange stud sets in sour service, individual piece hardness testing is available on request to satisfy project-specific inspection and test plan requirements.
Standard metric sizes from M12 to M36 are held ex-stock in Mumbai with no formal minimum order quantity – single-piece supply is available for emergency maintenance and shutdown requirements. Custom sizes and non-standard lengths carry a minimum order of 10 kg. ASME B16.5 flange stud bolt sets are supplied by the complete set with no piece minimum. Volume price breaks apply at 50 pieces, 200 pieces, and 500 pieces for repeat orders.
