Product Overview

What are Hastelloy G35 Threaded Rods?

Hastelloy G35 threaded rods are nickel-chromium-molybdenum-copper alloy fasteners manufactured from UNS N06035 bar stock conforming to ASTM B574. The alloy’s high chromium content (33.2-36.2%) combined with molybdenum (7.6-9.0%) and copper (0.3% max) delivers exceptional resistance to oxidising acids, particularly nitric and mixed acid environments, with a minimum tensile strength of 690 MPa in the annealed condition.

Hastelloy G35 threaded rods are specified for phosphoric acid production, nitric acid processing, and aggressive chemical environments where standard nickel alloys and stainless steels fail prematurely. The alloy’s outstanding resistance to intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking makes it the preferred choice for chemical process flanges, reactor closures, and heat exchanger assemblies worldwide.

Material Chemistry

Hastelloy G35 Chemical Composition

Hastelloy G35 Threaded Rods derive their exceptional acid corrosion resistance from a precisely controlled nickel-molybdenum-chromium composition per ASTM. High molybdenum and tungsten content suppresses pitting and reducing-acid attack; ultra-low carbon (0.01% max) eliminates sensitization risk in welded assemblies. Full elemental composition is certified in the EN 10204 MTC supplied with every Hastelloy G35 threaded rods order from RealBolt.

Why Hastelloy G35 Alloy Composition Matters for Threaded Rods

Cr (33.2–36.2%) — Oxidising Acid Resistance
The exceptionally high chromium content gives Hastelloy G35 threaded rods outstanding resistance to nitric acid and mixed acid environments at elevated concentrations and temperatures — performance that no standard nickel alloy or stainless steel can replicate in these conditions.
Mo (7.6–9.0%) — Pitting & Crevice Corrosion Protection
Molybdenum reinforces resistance to localised corrosion, including pitting and crevice attack in chloride-bearing process streams. This is critical for threaded rod assemblies where crevice conditions exist at thread roots and under nut bearing faces.
Low Carbon (0.05% max) — Intergranular Corrosion Immunity
The controlled low carbon content prevents sensitisation and carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during welding or elevated-temperature service. Hastelloy G35 threaded rods maintain full corrosion resistance in the as-welded condition without post-weld heat treatment.

Industry Applications

Hastelloy G35 Threaded Rods Applications — Industries & End Uses

Hastelloy G35 Threaded Rods from RealBolt are specified across chemical processing, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, and FGD where excellent corrosion resistance and 800 MPa tensile strength are required for reliable fastener performance. Click each industry below for detailed application examples.
Hastelloy G35 threaded rods are the primary fastener specification for nitric acid concentrators, evaporators, and reactor vessel closures. The alloy’s ultra-high chromium content provides corrosion rates below 0.1 mm/year in boiling concentrated nitric acid – a performance level unmatched by any standard stainless steel or conventional nickel alloy.
Threaded rod assemblies in wet-process phosphoric acid (WPA) plants, including filter press frames, heat exchanger channel covers, and agitator shaft connections, rely on Hastelloy G35 for resistance to the combined attack of phosphoric acid, fluoride ions, and sulfate species present in fertiliser-grade acid production.
Hastelloy G35 threaded rods are specified for absorber tower internals, spray header supports, and mist eliminator frames in FGD scrubbers where hot dilute sulfuric acid, chloride ions, and oxidising conditions combine to rapidly corrode standard duplex and 316L stainless steel fasteners.
Reactor closure stud bolt sets and agitator flange connections in pharmaceutical API manufacturing and fine chemical synthesis use Hastelloy G35 threaded rods where product purity requirements prohibit iron contamination and where mixed organic/inorganic acid environments demand superior corrosion resistance.

Hastelloy G35 Threaded Rods — Frequently Asked Questions

Browse expert answers to common questions about Hastelloy G35 Threaded Rods from RealBolt — covering acid corrosion resistance, NACE MR0175 compliance, ASTM standards, available sizes, and MTC documentation. Contact our technical team directly for project-specific guidance on Hastelloy G35 threaded rods selection and pricing.
Hastelloy G35 threaded rods are manufactured from bar stock conforming to ASTM B574 (UNS N06035). Dimensional standards for metric threaded rods are DIN 975 (full-thread rod in 1m and 2m lengths) and DIN 976-1 (stud bolt form). Inch-series rods are produced per ASME B18.31.3. Stud bolt sets for flanged connections are supplied per ASME B16.5 or MSS SP-75. All material is certified to EN 10204 3.1 as standard, with 3.2 TPI-witnessed certification available on request.
Hastelloy G35 outperforms C276 specifically in oxidising acid environments – particularly nitric acid, mixed nitric/sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid. C276’s higher molybdenum content (15-17%) gives it superior performance in reducing acid and chloride environments, but in strongly oxidising conditions, the ultra-high chromium of G35 (33.2-36.2%) provides significantly lower corrosion rates. For mixed service involving both oxidising and reducing acids, consult our engineering team for a site-specific recommendation.
Hastelloy G35 threaded rods should be paired with matching UNS N06035 hex nuts manufactured to ASTM B574 / ASME B18.2.2 (inch) or ISO 4032 (metric). Using matched-alloy nuts prevents galvanic corrosion at the thread interface and ensures consistent corrosion resistance across the entire fastener assembly. For flange stud bolt applications, heavy hex nuts per ASME B18.2.2 are standard. All nuts are supplied from the same heat as the rod where possible, with a single EN 10204 3.1 MTC covering the complete set.
Use a nickel-based anti-seize compound such as Molykote P-37, Jet-Lube KOPR-KOTE Pure Nickel, or Bostik Never-Seez Pure Nickel on all Hastelloy G35 threaded rod assemblies. Apply to the full thread length and nut bearing faces before assembly. Reduce calculated dry torque values by approximately 20% when using anti-seize. Copper-based and zinc-based anti-seize compounds must never be used on nickel alloy fasteners – the galvanic potential difference between copper or zinc and nickel accelerates corrosion at the thread interface, particularly in wet acid environments.
