Product Overview

What are Titanium Grade 4 Screws?

Titanium Grade 4 screws are high-strength, commercially pure titanium fasteners manufactured from UNS R50700 bar stock in accordance with ASTM B348 and ASTM F67. Grade 4 is the strongest of the commercially pure titanium grades, offering a minimum tensile strength of 550 MPa and excellent corrosion resistance in oxidizing and chloride-rich environments.

These screws are widely specified for critical applications in chemical processing, marine, medical, and aerospace industries where a combination of high strength, low weight, and biocompatibility is required. Titanium Grade 4 screws are non-magnetic, exhibit excellent resistance to crevice and pitting corrosion, and are suitable for both threaded and self-tapping designs.

Material Chemistry

Titanium Grade 4 Chemical Composition

Titanium Grade 4 Screws are manufactured from commercially pure or alloyed titanium with elemental limits strictly controlled per ASTM and AMS specifications. Oxygen and nitrogen contents govern strength and ductility in CP grades; aluminium and vanadium additions in Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5) deliver 896 MPa tensile strength at 4.43 g/cm³ density.

Chemical Composition per ASTM B348

ElementComposition (%)
Titanium (Ti)Balance
Oxygen (O)0.30-0.40%
Iron (Fe)0.50% max
Carbon (C)0.08% max
Nitrogen (N)0.05% max
Hydrogen (H)0.015% max
Other Elements (each)0.10% max
Other Elements (total)0.40% max
? All heats verified by NABL-accredited spectrometry. Biocompatibility and PMI available on request.

Why Titanium Grade 4 Alloy Composition Matters for Screws

High Oxygen Content — Strength
The higher oxygen content in Grade 4 titanium increases tensile and yield strength, making these screws suitable for high-load and pressure applications where other CP grades may not suffice.
Low Interstitials — Corrosion & Biocompatibility
Strict limits on carbon, nitrogen, and hydrogen ensure excellent corrosion resistance and biocompatibility, making Titanium Grade 4 screws ideal for medical, marine, and chemical service.
Iron Control — Ductility
Iron content is tightly controlled to maintain ductility and prevent embrittlement, ensuring reliable performance in dynamic and cyclic loading environments.
