Product Overview

What are Duplex 2304 Screws?

Duplex 2304 screws are high-strength, corrosion-resistant fasteners manufactured from UNS S32304 duplex stainless steel, conforming to ASTM A479 and ASTM A276 standards. This alloy features a balanced dual-phase microstructure of austenite and ferrite, delivering superior mechanical strength (min. 620 MPa tensile) and excellent resistance to chloride-induced pitting and crevice corrosion.

With a PREN of 26-28, Duplex 2304 screws outperform 316L in aggressive environments, making them ideal for marine, chemical, and structural applications where both corrosion resistance and cost-effectiveness are critical. They are widely specified for pressure vessels, piping systems, and offshore structures requiring reliable, long-life fastening solutions.

Material Chemistry

Duplex 2304 Chemical Composition

Duplex 2304 Screws are produced from a ferritic-austenitic steel with chromium (21–23%), molybdenum (3–3.5%), and nitrogen (0.14–0.20%) controlled per ASTM. Nitrogen is the critical alloying element: it simultaneously raises PREN to ≥ 35 for chloride pitting resistance and strengthens the austenite phase to achieve 450 MPa minimum yield — twice that of SS 316L.

Why Duplex 2304 Alloy Composition Matters for Screws

Cr (21.5–24.5%) — Pitting & Crevice Resistance
High chromium content ensures Duplex 2304 screws resist pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich environments, outperforming 316L in marine and chemical service.
N (0.05–0.2%) — Strength & Toughness
Nitrogen addition increases yield strength and toughness, allowing Duplex 2304 screws to maintain high mechanical properties even after welding or cold working.
Balanced Duplex Structure
The dual-phase (austenite/ferrite) microstructure provides a unique combination of strength and corrosion resistance, making Duplex 2304 screws ideal for demanding structural and process applications.

Duplex 2304 socket head screws are available to DIN 912 (metric), ISO 4762, DIN 7991 (countersunk), and ASME B18.3 (inch). Button head and flat head types are also available. Custom thread forms (UNC, UNF, BSW) can be supplied on request with short lead times.
Use molybdenum-based or PTFE anti-seize compound (such as Molykote 1000 or Loctite LB 8014) to prevent galling and facilitate disassembly. Avoid copper-based anti-seize in chloride environments. Lubricated torque values should be reduced by 15-20% compared to dry assembly.
Yes – Duplex 2304 screws offer significantly better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater and brine than 316L, making them suitable for marine, desalination, and offshore applications. For continuous immersion in highly aggressive brines, consider higher alloy duplex grades.
No formal MOQ for standard sizes (M6-M24) held ex-stock – we supply from single pieces for urgent maintenance. Custom sizes or non-standard threads may require a 10 kg minimum. Quantity price breaks are available at 50, 200, and 500 pieces.
