What is Incoloy 800H?

Incoloy 800H (UNS N08810) is the high-creep-strength variant of Incoloy 800, with controlled carbon 0.05–0.10% and minimum average grain size ASTM No.5 (>60 μm). These controls maximise grain-boundary carbide strengthening and creep rupture life at 600–900°C. It shares the same nominal chemistry as 800 but is manufactured with tighter process control. Incoloy 800H fasteners and tube hangers are specified for steam methane reformer outlets, ethylene cracker furnace headers, HRSG high-pressure sections and nuclear heat exchanger supports where long-term creep life at 600–900°C is the design criterion. Governed by ASTM B408 (with 800H chemistry).

Incoloy 800H Fasteners Chemical Composition

Incoloy 800H Fasteners derive their exceptional performance from a carefully balanced composition of nickel, chromium and iron. Nickel content, maintained at 30 to 35 percent, provides excellent resistance to carburization and chloride stress corrosion cracking while stabilizing the austenitic structure. Chromium, present at 19 to 23 percent, forms a protective oxide layer that enhances resistance to oxidation and sulfidation at elevated temperatures. Controlled additions of aluminum and titanium promote grain stability and improve creep rupture strength, while a higher carbon content compared to standard Incoloy 800 enhances high-temperature strength retention.

These metallurgical characteristics translate into significant engineering benefits for fastener applications. The alloy exhibits outstanding resistance to oxidation, carburization and sulfidation environments, making it ideal for high-temperature service in petrochemical, power generation and heat-treatment industries. Its excellent creep and stress rupture properties ensure long-term structural integrity under sustained thermal and mechanical loading. Combined with good weldability and fabricability, Incoloy 800H Fasteners deliver reliable, long-lasting performance in demanding fastening applications where strength retention and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures are essential.

Applications

Incoloy 800H Fasteners Applications

Incoloy 800H Fasteners from RealBolt Engineering Industries are specified wherever corrosion resistance, elevated-temperature strength, or chemical media compatibility is critical to fastener performance. Primary industries and end-uses for Incoloy 800H fasteners include 800 with controlled c; higher creep strength at 600-900 deg c.
Incoloy 800H bolts, studs and nuts are widely used in furnace fixtures, radiant tubes, retorts, muffles, burner components and heat treatment baskets where bolting must resist scaling and loss of strength during long exposure to high temperature.
UNS N08810 fasteners are selected for ethylene pyrolysis units, reformers, cracking heaters, transfer lines and process heaters because the alloy offers dependable resistance to oxidation, carburization and thermal cycling in elevated-temperature hydrocarbon environments.
Alloy 800H fasteners support boiler components, superheater hardware, heat exchangers, expansion joints and high-temperature ducting where creep resistance and dimensional stability are important for reliable long-term operation.
Incoloy 800H threaded rod, washers and custom fasteners are used in reactors, pressure equipment, salt bath equipment, nitriding systems and industrial kilns where stainless steel bolting may lose strength or scale excessively at elevated temperatures.

Frequently Asked Questions About Incoloy 800H Fasteners

Browse the questions below to get quick, expert answers about Incoloy 800H Fasteners — covering alloy specifications (UNS N08810), applicable standards (ASTM B408), temperature ratings, corrosion performance, and how to source certified Incoloy 800H fasteners from RealBolt Engineering Industries.
Coarser grains (ASTM No.5 or coarser, i.e., grain diameter ≥60 μm) reduce grain boundary area, decreasing grain boundary sliding — the dominant creep deformation mechanism at 600–900°C. Controlled carbon (0.05–0.10%) ensures sufficient grain boundary M23C6 carbide precipitation to pin grain boundaries and resist creep.
ASTM B408 covers Incoloy 800, 800H and 800HT bar (grain size requirements differentiate the grades). ASME SB-408 is the pressure-vessel code equivalent. Heat treatment: solution anneal at 1150°C minimum for 800H. Grain size verification (ASTM E112) required on MTC for 800H.
Yes. ASME Section II Part D lists Incoloy 800H (N08810) with elevated-temperature design allowables. Used in ASME Code-stamped steam reformer outlet manifolds, HRSG headers and nuclear heat exchangers. ASME Code Case approvals available for specific applications.
Incoloy 800HT (N08811) has higher Al+Ti (0.85–1.20% vs 0.30–1.20% for 800H) and narrower C range (0.06–0.10%). The higher Al+Ti increases γ’ precipitation hardening at high temperature, providing better creep rupture life for the most demanding reformer and cracker applications.
