What is Inconel 625?

Inconel 625 (UNS N06625) is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with niobium additions delivering exceptional fatigue, pitting and crevice corrosion resistance without heat treatment. Solid-solution strengthening via Mo (8–10%) and Nb (3.15–4.15%) gives 758 MPa tensile at ambient. PREN exceeds 51, surpassing super-duplex steels in seawater resistance. Inconel 625 fasteners are the offshore and subsea standard for wellhead connectors, valve bonnets, marine propeller shafts and chemical reactor internals. Compliant with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 for sour service and NORSOK MDS D47 for offshore fasteners.

Inconel 625 Fasteners Chemical Composition

Inconel 625 fasteners derive their exceptional performance from a nickel-chromium-molybdenum matrix strengthened by niobium additions. Chromium provides excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance, while molybdenum enhances resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in reducing environments. Niobium contributes to solid-solution strengthening and stabilizes the alloy against sensitization during welding, preventing carbide precipitation at grain boundaries. This carefully balanced composition eliminates the need for extensive precipitation-hardening heat treatments, allowing the alloy to achieve high strength through solid-solution mechanisms alone, which simplifies manufacturing while maintaining consistent mechanical properties.

These metallurgical characteristics translate into fasteners with outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in aggressive chloride and acidic environments. Excellent fatigue strength, high-temperature stability up to 980°C, and resistance to oxidation make Inconel 625 fasteners ideal for aerospace, marine, chemical processing, and oil and gas applications where reliability under extreme thermal and corrosive conditions is essential for long-term structural integrity.

Applications

Inconel 625 Fastener Applications

Inconel 625 Fasteners from RealBolt Engineering Industries are specified wherever corrosion resistance, elevated-temperature strength, or chemical media compatibility is critical to fastener performance. Primary industries and end-uses for Inconel 625 fasteners include chemical processing, nuclear, aerospace, seawater, offshore platforms.
Inconel 625 bolts, nuts and washers are widely used on seawater piping, splash-zone structures, pump assemblies and offshore platforms where chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and galvanic exposure can rapidly damage stainless steel bolting.
Alloy 625 fasteners perform well in equipment exposed to mixed acids, phosphoric acid, organic acids, chlorinated media and scrubber environments, making them suitable for flanges, reactors, heat exchangers and valve assemblies.
The alloy retains useful strength and oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures, so Inconel 625 screws and studs are selected for turbine-adjacent hardware, exhaust ducting, thermal shields and high-performance engine components.
UNS N06625 fasteners are specified for subsea equipment, wellhead components, sour-gas systems and downhole tooling where resistance to stress corrosion cracking, sulfides and high-chloride brines is required.
