What is Nimonic 263?

Nimonic 263 (UNS N07263) is a cobalt-bearing Ni-Cr-Co-Mo alloy with lower Al (0.3–0.7%) than Nimonic 105, providing good elevated-temperature strength to 900°C with significantly better weldability than higher-Al Nimonic grades. Tensile strength 900 MPa in the aged condition. Used where joining and repairability are important. Nimonic 263 fasteners, sheet and welded components are specified for gas turbine combustion chambers, transition ducts, exhaust casings and steam plant hardware requiring both elevated-temperature strength and weldability. Governed by AMS 5872 and BS 3076 NA32.

Nimonic 263 Chemical Composition

Nimonic 263 fasteners derive their exceptional performance from a carefully balanced composition of nickel, chromium, cobalt and molybdenum, strengthened by controlled additions of titanium and aluminium. Chromium provides the primary defence against oxidation and corrosive attack by forming a stable protective oxide layer, while cobalt enhances high-temperature strength and structural stability. Molybdenum contributes solid-solution strengthening, improving resistance to creep and thermal fatigue. Titanium and aluminium combine to form gamma prime precipitates, which are responsible for the alloy’s remarkable age-hardening response and mechanical strength at elevated temperatures.

These metallurgical characteristics make Nimonic 263 fasteners highly suitable for demanding fastening applications where high strength, oxidation resistance and thermal stability are essential. The alloy maintains excellent tensile and creep properties up to 900°C, resists scaling and corrosive degradation in aggressive environments, and retains dimensional stability under cyclic thermal loading. Its superior fatigue resistance and toughness ensure long-term reliability in aerospace, gas turbine and high-temperature industrial fastening applications, making it a preferred choice for critical bolted joints.

Applications

Nimonic 263 Fasteners Applications

Nimonic 263 Fasteners from RealBolt Engineering Industries are specified wherever corrosion resistance, elevated-temperature strength, or chemical media compatibility is critical to fastener performance. Primary industries and end-uses for Nimonic 263 fasteners include excellent weldability; combustion chambers, aero-engine fastened assemblies.
Nimonic 263 bolts, studs and nuts are used in turbine casings, combustor hardware, nozzle assemblies and other hot-section locations where fasteners must retain strength under sustained thermal exposure and cyclic loading.
The alloy is well suited to aircraft exhaust ducts, afterburner assemblies and thrust-reverser components because it combines oxidation resistance with good ductility after age hardening, helping reduce cracking risk during service and maintenance.
Nimonic 263 fasteners are selected for furnace fixtures, radiant tube supports, heat-treatment baskets and hot gas path hardware where conventional stainless fasteners can lose preload or scale rapidly at elevated temperature.
In power plants, petrochemical heaters and thermal processing units, Nimonic 263 fasteners provide reliable clamping for parts exposed to heat, oxidation and creep-sensitive operating conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Nimonic 263 Fasteners

Browse the questions below to get quick, expert answers about Nimonic 263 Fasteners — covering alloy specifications (UNS N07263), applicable standards (BS 3076), temperature ratings, corrosion performance, and how to source certified Nimonic 263 fasteners from RealBolt Engineering Industries.
Nimonic 263’s lower Al (0.3–0.7% vs 1.0–1.8% for 80A) reduces γ’ volume fraction, significantly improving weldability and resistance to strain-age cracking. High-Al alloys like 80A can crack in the HAZ during welding. 263 sacrifices some creep strength for weldability — the trade-off required for fabricated combustion chambers.
BS 3076 NA32 (rod and bar), AMS 5872 (bar and plate), AMS 5886 (sheet), DTD 5222 (aerospace). DIN equivalent: 2.4650, EN 10302. Supplied solution-annealed with optional ageing (800°C/8h) for increased strength. EN 10204 3.1 MTC with full chemical and mechanical properties.
Solution anneal: 1150°C/2h, AC. Age: 800°C/8h, AC. The ageing precipitates γ’ and η-phase (Ni3Ti) providing the 900 MPa tensile. For welded assemblies, solution anneal after welding (1150°C) then age to restore properties. PWHT requirements and times on MTC.
Yes. Nimonic 263 is used in combustion chamber and afterburner hardware in several commercial and military gas turbines. It is certified under multiple OEM (Rolls-Royce, GE, P&W) material specifications as an approved wrought high-temperature alloy.
