What is Incoloy 825?

Incoloy 825 (UNS N08825) is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with Mo 2.5–3.5%, Cu 1.5–3.0% and Ti 0.6–1.2%, designed for aqueous corrosion resistance — not high temperature. Ni 38–46% provides SCC immunity; Mo resists pitting; Cu improves reducing acid resistance. PREN approximately 30. NACE MR0175 compliant. Incoloy 825 fasteners are used in sulfuric acid pickling tanks, phosphoric acid plant, oil and gas sour wellheads, seawater desalination and chemical plant handling mixed reducing and oxidising acids where SS 316L and duplex grades are inadequate. Governed by ASTM B425 for bar.

Incoloy 825 Fasteners Chemical Composition

Incoloy 825 fasteners derive their exceptional performance from a carefully balanced composition of nickel, iron, chromium, molybdenum, copper and titanium. Nickel provides resistance to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking, while chromium contributes oxidation and corrosion resistance across a range of aggressive environments. Molybdenum and copper act together to enhance resistance to reducing acids such as sulfuric and phosphoric acid, and titanium stabilises the alloy against sensitisation during welding or elevated temperature exposure, preserving grain boundary integrity.

These metallurgical characteristics translate into fasteners that deliver outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in marine, chemical processing and oil and gas environments. The alloy maintains good mechanical strength and ductility across a wide temperature range, ensuring reliable clamping performance under thermal cycling and mechanical loading. Its combination of corrosion resistance, weldability and dimensional stability makes Incoloy 825 fasteners a preferred choice for critical bolted joints exposed to harsh, corrosive service conditions.

Applications

Incoloy 825 Fasteners Applications

Incoloy 825 Fasteners from RealBolt Engineering Industries are specified wherever corrosion resistance, elevated-temperature strength, or chemical media compatibility is critical to fastener performance. Primary industries and end-uses for Incoloy 825 fasteners include mo+cu alloy; sulfuric/phosphoric acid; pickling, nuclear waste storage.
Incoloy 825 fasteners are widely used in sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, organic acid and mixed acid equipment where stainless steel fasteners may pit, crevice corrode or suffer stress corrosion cracking. Typical installations include heat exchangers, tanks, pumps, valves and piping flanges.
The alloy’s chromium, molybdenum and nickel content provides strong resistance to chloride attack and seawater exposure. Incoloy 825 bolts and studs are used on offshore platforms, desalination systems, seawater piping, splash-zone hardware and marine instrumentation supports.
Alloy 825 fasteners perform well in scrubbers, absorber vessels, ducts and flue gas desulfurization units where acidic condensates and chloride-bearing deposits can rapidly degrade conventional stainless steels.
Incoloy 825 threaded studs, nuts and washers are selected for sour gas handling, wellhead components, downhole tools and refinery equipment where resistance to hydrogen sulfide, chlorides and reducing acids is required.

Frequently Asked Questions About Incoloy 825 Fasteners

Browse the questions below to get quick, expert answers about Incoloy 825 Fasteners — covering alloy specifications (UNS N08825), applicable standards (ASTM B425), temperature ratings, corrosion performance, and how to source certified Incoloy 825 fasteners from RealBolt Engineering Industries.
Incoloy 825 is the standard for sour wellhead and Christmas tree bolting (NACE MR0175 compliant), H2S-bearing production piping flanges, offshore desalination plant hardware and high-pressure vessel bolting in mixed H2S/CO2/Cl- environments where duplex SS fails by SCC.
ASTM B425 covers Incoloy 825 rod and bar. ASTM B424 covers plate. ASME SB-425 and SB-424 are the pressure-vessel code equivalents. All supplied solution-annealed with EN 10204 3.1 MTC. For NACE service, hardness survey (≤35 HRC per NACE MR0175) is included.
Yes. N08825 is listed in NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 for sour service. Maximum hardness ≤35 HRC in the solution-annealed condition. We supply NACE-compliant 825 fasteners with full MTC 3.1, PMI and hardness survey for H2S-bearing well and pipeline service.
Incoloy 825’s Cu addition (1.5–3.0%) provides moderate H2SO4 resistance for dilute-to-medium concentrations. Hastelloy C276 (Mo 15–17%) is better for concentrated H2SO4 and HCl. For H2SO4 service above 50% concentration or at elevated temperature, C276 or Alloy 20 is preferred over 825.
